it is all too often that men are underappreciated and overlooked. however, there is one time of year that this happens in mass quantities...our men are belittled into tiffany's giving, rose hunting, hallmark maniacs: to please US on valentine's day. so this valentine's day i would like to do my part in making this world a better place by giving back to MANkind. Here's some tips for the ladies on how to make this loveeeeeeeeeely day for the man in your life.

1. home cookin'
i know yer tired of eating 2 for 89cent tuesdays at popeye's, but NEWSFLASH so is he! take out your cookbooks, all your hamburger helpers, and a quick prayer that you won't burn down HIS house and git to cooking! pick meals that are do-able and don't forget dessert. the way to his heart is through his tummy.....buhlieeeeeee that!

2. give it some thought
when have u ever thought about what HE likes, what HE wants to do, where HE wants to go. zone in on his hobbies and desires & fulfill one of them for valentine's day. Example: if your man likes to watch basketball but u can't stand watching a game. get him some rocket's tickets and accompany him. it's payback for the zillion times you dragged him to every girly store in the mall.

if u are gonna go the safe "buy him a watch" mindset, have the decency to get him something that is equivalent to your juicy couture dreams. remember vday is about expressing your love...how can u expect to get "gucci purse" love if you only show "marshall''s tie" love in return? its not being materilistic...it's being REALISTIC.

some simple black headphones for his ipod so he can listen to the new keyshia cole cd without being judged by his homies. [for your man's sensitive side needs]

[literally] take your man on a secret camping getaway or something away from the hustle & bustle of daily life. just bring the OFF! & some marshmellows & u got yourself s'more lovin soon to come!


If all else fails, macaroni pictures are always a sure-fire way to win any real man's heart.

lucky USSSS [houston] we get RAIN every day this week...which is definitely not something i look forward to! nonetheless, i will take this opportunity to speak on rainy day necessities.believeeeee me, just because it's raining, it does not give ppl an excuse to dawn weave-protecting grocery bags, wear "school bus" yellow ponchos [circa 5th grade], or stop your daily lives just to avoid a lil H2O.

note: this list does not include: umbrellas & hoodies for the simple fact that this is thekommonthread not thekommonsense.

1. Patent leather for the weather

This was inspired by a young chap i saw in the mall...i wish i had my camera on me cuz ol' boy had two plastic bags wrapped around his sneakers...like HEB rainboots.that was totally uncalled for...don't u agree?? soooo...my rainy day attire usually consists of patent leather forces [fly and functional]. it's a great alternative to rainboots & are really easy to clean and maintain through the rain. if mariah can make it, so can we.

2. ready to head out

the number one mistake of females when its raining is trying to look TOO cute. c'mon we all know what rain + humidity + moisture do to your do. so call it a day and get FITTED. not only is it a good way to hide that hair, this fitted comes in a hotttt royal blue adorned with our favorite letter: K.

3. something to warm the heart

i will never understand why there are such grumpy, groggy, badly-dressed people lurking the malls/highways/etc. on rainy days. a sure-fire way to give u a lil kick in your step and sway you for hibernating for the week: a lil starbucks. According to a study by Vanderbilt University, coffee can lower your risk of diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and colon cancer, lift your mood and treat headaches and lower your risk of cavities

my personal choice: white chocolate mocha, w/soy, 5 pump yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

4. give it some time
when its raining outside, give yourself some extra time to get where you're going. accidents, angry road rage, and splashing water on helpless pedestrians is def NOT a good look.

5. if all else fails, stay @ home and read thekommonthread

i never thought in a million yrs id pay $125 for a chris brown concert but b/c i love my lil cousin i decided to pay up and try to enjoy the show from the 5TH ROW!!...now i for one adore chris brown but the rest of the line up i couldve gone w/o!!!! i must say chris has a charming, innocent boy appeal but the new cd is laced with grown man lyrics. awh him growing up!!! aite so the show went a lil something like this....

Soulja Boy Tellem- well as much as i hoped id miss this "performance" we arrived right on time..DAMNIT TO HELL!!! so i suffered thru a slew of songs id never heard before and then he hit us with the big one...yep! u guessed it!! "Crank That"...bull!!! he even took his shirt off at one point..i dont recall when i think i was a lil disorientated by all the loud colors and those horrible shades he dons!! oh and yes lets not forget the cameo appearance from Lil Will with Dallas' current theme song "My Dougie"...i must admit i do hit that ho when it comes on but then its back to norm once the song ends because i have to look at the person who performs the songs...another a disaster!!

1. so if you know me then you already know im infatuated with HELLO KITTY!!! needless to say i own quite a few Sanrio products but my "mother dearest" outdid herself this time...one of my many christmas gifts was a Hello Kitty blowdryer, its adorable!! i finally got around to opening it and the instructions on "How To Get The Best Styling Results" (obviously created for those with fine hair) listed#5 as "Remember that no hair dryer can correct a bad haircut.
